Athena Rose, an artist residing in the country outside of New York City, incorporates the natural world and domestic scenes into her meditative paintings. Born to a gardener and a home designer, she attended regular meditation classes at an ashram, spent weekends at a tiger sanctuary, and received an education in wilderness survival from early on. In her most recent works, Athena has graduated her textural techniques into dreamlike explorations of the human figure. Inspired by Greco-Roman sculpture and architecture, she contemplates how, together, a collection of otherwise non-anthropomorphic components can suggest the tenderness and tenseness we express in the physical form.
